Kash + Darla | Reading, PA engagement

I met Darla when I was out on another consultation. Call it what you may, but I feel like it was meant to be. Although that first bride didn’t ultimately book with me, Darla caught me before I left, we talked and I shared some information with her. Several months later we met again on purpose and the rest is history :)

A few minutes before Kash and Darla met me, it rained for several minutes – not a great start for an engagement session! Although the clouds continued to roll in and I thought we would get stuck in a sudden downpour, the rain held off and the cloud cover saturated the beautiful fall colors. I was especially happy to hear how excited they were since these are the only professional photos they have together even though they have been together for some time. Can’t wait for your day next spring!

Abby | Lancaster PA senior portraits

Abby’s a baller. For real! She plays on the girls varsity basketball team where she undoubtedly will be a necessary component for this year’s team. She’s also an excellent student and wants to go into teaching special education.

Abby’s German exchange student came along for the shoot and joined in on the fun for a few shots too! We finished the shoot as the sun was peeking through the trees with some perfect lighting and at the spillway of the speedwell forge lake.

Sadly, Abby was the last shoot I will get to take there since the lake is being drained due to damage to the dam. Since the fish and game commission doesn’t have the $6 million to fund the repair, we are losing one of the most beautiful areas around. Join Save Speedwell on Facebook!

Jon + Heidi | Strasburg Engagement

I met Jon and Heidi recently in Strasburg for their engagement session. It was a wet and chilly morning but the photos turned out awesome! We started downtown and explored the historic buildings. We finished over at Strasburg Railroad where we got a peek of times past as the engineers got the engine ready for the first passengers.

Courtney | Lancaster PA senior photography

Courtney is a busy girl. She finds time to do a lot of different activities. It isn’t just one thing that defines who she is. She enjoys field hockey and track, being a news anchor on the morning show at her high school, and having fun with friends. Her bubbly and fun personality is evident as soon as you meet her, and her curly hair makes her stand out.

She loved my other shoots online and chose some beautiful areas for outside photos. She really wanted to do something different with her sports photos so after the sun set we did some really edgy and cool shots on the tracks with off camera lighting.

Nick + Kate | Central PA Wedding

Nick and Kate decided to have their wedding ceremony at the stately and historic Pine Street Presbyterian church right across from the Capitol building in Harrisburg. Founded in 1858, the church is the second oldest Presbyterian church in Harrisburg and has a long standing involvement in helping the homeless and economically disadvantaged in the city.

Since I was already booked for a wedding, Joel and Kylene covered this one for Nick and Kate. It was disappointing that the weather didn’t cooperate for the outside photos at the Capitol fountains, but at least it dried out for a flower petal exit onto Pine Street!

The reception was held at the Hershey Lodge where no detail was overlooked. The fresh flowers and decor along with the delectable food made for a perfect evening.

Brian + Kristen | Lancaster, PA Wedding Photography

When I first met with Brian and Kristen about their wedding, they told me they wanted a fun wedding. Kristen’s mom added that she would definitely be dancing the entire night. They weren’t kidding! Some of my final pictures were Kristen’s mom on the dance floor drinking from a pitcher. Such a fun bunch!

Kristen got ready at her parents’ house with all her girls there with her. Her dad, a former military policeman reminisced with me while he shined his shoes. When he finished, I could seriously have used them for a mirror. He explained that someone that was in charge of issuing citations for improper dress, he had to have his outfit be perfect in every way. The shoes were especially important; they sometimes shined for hours at a time to build up the depth.

Luckily the rain held off for the photos before , but the ceremony was moved under the pavilion because of a rainstorm. Luckily enough it was clear again after the ceremony for a couple quick shots before the rain started up again. Brian and Kristen decided to have everyone hold lighters for their first dance together, and at the end of the night, I got pulled into the mix and photographed with some of my new friends ;)

Thanks so much for letting me be part of your celebration.

Jason + Erica | Eagles Mere wedding

Erica and Jason wanted to have a wedding in the fall at the center of the town where her parents own a cabin, so I agreed to make the trek into the mountains where fall comes earlier and the trees had already started to drop their leaves. In the center of town is a gazebo in the park where they planned to tie the knot. Unfortunately with the extra rainfall, the ceremony had to be moved in front of the gazebo, but that didn’t stop them from having a beautiful little ceremony officiated by the town’s mayor.

Erica had to forgo wearing her colorful Kate Spade shoes for the ceremony, but got them out for the reception at the Eagles Mere Country Club. After eating some delicious dinner and cupcakes, the guests joined on the dance floor to have a great time!

Such a beautiful area up there, and fall is my favorite season :)

Urban family

Having three boys of my own has prepared me for little boy pictures better than any photo class ever could. Well, that and shooting sports for a decade! Maybe it’s because I am also their dad, but I think they enjoy doing the exact opposite of what I ask of them when we go out for some photos. And trying to get all three at the same time for our yearly Christmas photo seems like an exercise in futility every year.

When Mrs. Urban first contacted me, she said that her oldest son had an aversion to having his picture taken. No problem, I thought, I have 3 of those already :) While he may have been trying to escape, I still managed to appeal to his little boy sensibilities of trains, ducks, water, and swings. He certainly didn’t look to me and smile very often, but when he did I was there and ready! His little brother on the other hand was happy everywhere with his curly hair and big eyes. Such a wonderful family! Thanks so much for letting me join in the fun!

Eric + Gretchen | Millersville University Wedding

Eric and Gretchen had been dating for 8 years on the day of their wedding. Eric recalled pulling all his money together to take Gretchen to a fancy restaurant for their 1 month anniversary. He even sold a bunch of video games to afford it. He knew she was worth the investment even back then. Now 8 years later, he threw quite an 8 year anniversary dinner if you ask me!

The rain shower that hit right when outside photos were going to start didn’t dampen any spirits as the guys recreated the iconic Abbey Road album cover shot in downtown Lititz. The girls held off till after the ceremony and made sure we had a shot with “spirit fingers” :)

Since Eric is a DJ, I knew from the moment I met them that their wedding would be a great party atmosphere. They didn’t disappoint! They broke out the glow sticks early on and danced into the night. It was a perfect time to try some cool lighting effects on my shots. They even pulled me out onto the dance floor and had the best man take some photos.

Josh + Michelle | Wrightsville Wedding

In the days leading up to the 9/10/11 wedding, I wondered if all the flooding would recede and be back to normal again so that Josh and Michelle could have their wedding planned for the Moon Dancer winery. Since the roadways to get to the winery run close to the Susquehanna River and we had the worst flooding in the area since 1972, I was happy to hear that on the morning of the wedding the roads were opened back up again.

This wasn’t the only roadblock they encountered. A few months ago, Josh had an accident at work where he fell and broke both of his lower bones in his leg. Doctors said that it would be a miracle if he was able to walk by his wedding day. He showed determination and not only walked, but stayed on his feet most of the night dancing! The wedding was dedicated to Michelle’s father who passed away before he could see her walk down the aisle, but was there in spirit. This wedding was full of surprises including a 4 leaf clover found by a bridesmaid as well as a butterfly landing and sitting on the brides hand on the dance floor.
